A Letter to the Clever Kids

Dear Clever Kids,
For the next two weeks you will take the Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program (TCAP/TN Ready) exams for Math, Reading, and Science. I know how hard you have been working, but there is something important that I want you to know…
The TCAP/TN Ready tests do not assess all of what makes each of you unique, special, and SMART. The people who create these tests do not know each of you the way that I do, and certainly not the way your families do.
They do not know that some of you sing or draw. They have not seen your natural acting ability. They do not know your friends count on you to be there for them (and you are), that your laughter and jokes can brighten people’s day, and that you set examples for the younger children. They do not know you participate in sports, wonder about your future, or sometimes help your siblings after school. They do not know that you demonstrate all of the Campus Tiger Pride life skills on a daily basis. They also do not know that every day you try to do your PERSONAL BEST!
The scores you will get back from TCAP/TN Ready are important, and they will tell you something – but, they will not tell you everything. There are many ways of being smart, and you know that. You are smart! You are enough! You are the light that brightens my day! So while you prepare for the tests - and while you take the tests - just remember that there is no way to “assess” all of the amazing and awesome things that make you, YOU—that make you SMART!
With Much Love,
Ms. Krueger
